HIGHLIGHTS

“Scrapping Up Art”. Sculpture classes wiith the assistance of sculptor Larry Kinney. Children used discarded materials, paper, fabric, glue and paint to create sculptures, collages, or paintings.

“Annual Thanksgiving Dinner and Variety Show”. Annual Thanksgiving dinner for troop members and their families, hosted by Mary and Larry Kinney. Troop members read poems, performed music, and displayed badges. The events were held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church auditiorium.

“The Art of Gardening”. An annual neigbhorhood garden hosted by Troop 41 filled with plants, flowers, painted rocks, sun-catchers and plastic sculptures.

“Christmas Basket Project: Fun with Food March”. (1989-1997) A “Food March” to collect food and funds for the Gloria J. Parks Community Center Annual Christmas Basket Project. Members of the troop and their families participated. Troop members sang holiday songs, played musical instruments, entertained visitors, and collected truckloads of food to donate to the Christmas Basket Project.

“Science is Art”. A six week program involving the use of science to create kinetic sculptures, creative rain gauges, clocks, crystals and pinhole cameras.

Attractions. Educational activities accompanied by regular field trips to: Theater of Youth, Fisher Price Inc., The Buffalo Museum of Science, Griffis Sculpture Park, Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, Canada’s Wonderland, Tifft Nature Preserve, The Aquarium of Niagara Falls, and the Albright Knox Art Museum.
